A busy reporter can make more money working with a scopist. Here's an example:
Reporter A ( with scopist) Reporter B (without scopist)
DAY ONE:

200 pgs. @ $3 a pg: $600 200 pgs. @ $3 a pg: $600

Less $1 per pg. Scoping $200

DAY TWO:
Appearance Fee: $75 Scoping own work
200 pgs. @ $3 a pg: $600 Off calendar ______________________ _______________________
$675.00 $.00
Less $1 per pg. Scoping $ $200 $.00 _______________________ ________________________
$475.00 $.00
***GROSS INCOME: $950.00 $675.00***
Second day, Reporter A goes on to take another job and Reporter B is scoping his or her own work, so Reporter A makes $950.00 (plus the tax deduction of $400.00) for the two days and Reporter B makes $675.00. Reporter A makes $275.00 more than Reporter B, plus the scopist is TAX DEDUCTIBLE. A busy reporter can be losing money if not using a scopist.
